On a motorhome installation, I would have used the reverse light power and not the switched power. So I used the switched power supply instead, which enables selection of the camera view at any time, via the satnav menus'. The reasoning for this was that, whilst using the reverse light power supply would automatically switch on the rear-view display as soon as reverse was selected, - it does not allow you to see what is behind you whilst driving. I also chose to use the switched live feed, (refrigerator supply), on the towing electrics, to power the camera, rather than the reversing light power. So 4 parallel connections need to be made and weatherproofed - (better to just coil up the excess cable). It is probably best to just coil up and secure all the excess cable, because I chose to shorten it for neatness, which resulted in a difficult joint with very fine wires.įor anyone else choosing to shorten the extension cable, the extension cable comprises three shielded internal wires, but one of the wires needs to be stripped back to reveal the inner earthing strands, which form the fourth connection on the 4 pin moulded connector plugs. Sticky pads an d cable ties routed the cable up the front fire wall and the transmitter was finally stuck to the inside of the front compartment wall. Choose from reliable dash cams and wireless backup cameras. When paired with a compatible GPS navigator, the BC 30 wireless backup camera helps you easily spot vehicles, pedestrians, pets and other hard-to-see. The only drilling was for camera cable entry through the rear wall, (later sealed with mastic), as the extension cable was able to be routed up into the front gas compartment, through the gas pipe hole in the front compartment floor. Dash & Backup Cameras When it comes to adding camera technology to your drive, Garmin has you covered, backwards and forwards and everything in between. The extension cable runs under the caravan and through existing cable fittings, so that part was easy. Due to the length of the caravan, an extension cable was purchased and the plug-in joint shrink wrapped for weatherproofing. I installed the camera above the number plate and ran the wire through the ABS rear wall, then down and out under the caravan. It took quite a while to complete the installation, however the result is impressive and it links seamlessly with our Garmin Camper satnav. I have the BC 30 fitted on a twin axle Compass caravan.
